| ESPRESSO TRAPANI EXPEDITION 07 SEPTEMBER 2006 |
||
| TODAY? | ||
Today was dedicated to gear rigging and buoyancy testing, and after many hours of fine tuning the rigs we finally hit the water for our first try-out session. The water entry was delicate as tide was low and the rocks very slippery, but we finally got in geared up with what will be our standard rig for the dives: - back gas double 20L tanks Getting in the water with our full kit showed us that we clearly had a weighting problem. Our tanks were very buoyant and we need to increase the number of kilos we will be using for the dives. Back to base we got our support team (with the help of Peppe) to create some weight systems we could adapt easily to our rigs without increasing the drag and snag risk. We have now received most of the gear from our sponsors and are working on filling the gaps left by one of our sponsors who promised wings, backplates and suits but finally pulled out without a valid reason a few days before the event, leaving us no time to search for a new logo. |

Today was the visit to the Mayor and
we picked up the commemorative plate that will be attached to the Espresso
in memory of the lost passengers. The Mayor also promised he would be
present on most dives to ensure that his team is helping the best they
possibly can. The Mayor is also an active scuba diver and would have loved
to participate in the event but when considering the depth again he finally
thought he had better leave this to professionals... |
