PAST EVENTS-CRUISE SINEM 07.99 Home
The Cruise "Wrecks of the Red Sea" run from the 18th to the 25th of July 1999, departed from Travko harbour in Sharm El Sheik (South point of the Sinaļ) Egypt, aboard Sinem One; a superbe two mast sailing boat of 27m. Built in 1997 on the coasts of Turkey, made all in wood, she is absolutely gorgeous and can accomodate up to 12 divers in luxurious cabins.

This wreck exploration cruise in the Straight of Gubal Sector D-E on the map was coupled with a Nitrox course.

During the cruise we followed the following itinerary :

  • Monday : check dive at Temple Reef and second dive at Ras Um Sid
  • Tuesday : cruise to Beacon Reef and dive on the Dunraven and second dive at Shaab Mahmud
  • Wednesday : cruise and two dives on the Thistlegorm. At the end of the afternoon cruise to Alternative Reef and night dive.
  • Thursday : cruise to Abu Nuhas and dive on the Ghiannis D. (Danae), then cruise to Ras Mohamed and dive on Shark Reef and Jollanda Reef, cruise again to Bluff Point and night dive on the unknown wreck of Bluff Point.

Ceco (Francesco) is a master at directing his crew, an unforgettable week, thanks to them. From left to right :

Life aboard is backbreaking after a full day diving ...
That evening was spent searching Pascuale !!! ... ??? One of Ceko's idea of fun ...
When are we diving ?

The predive briefing was given by Ceco using marine maps, sketches and pictures of local marine life; very professional.

Finally a few picture taken during this week of the beautiful underworld.

The beauty of Ras Mohamed reefs is well known across the world. The picture on the right was taken at Jackfish Alley, one my best dive site in this region.
The dives starts on a magnificent wall and was we move along we encounter the first cave in only about 5m of water. As we enter we discover a fork where both side have no exit. A little bit further appears a second cave who's entry is at 15m. Usually it houses of a large school of glassfish and the exit is at about 8m. Further on still we will find a sandy valley and this is for me the nicest part of the dive and actually of Ras Mohamed.

This is the place to encounter Ray's, White Tip Shark's, schools of Tuna, family's of Box fish and the vicious Trigger fish (Titan) who fiercely protect their progeny.

Most of the pictures following where taken on this dive site on the last dive of the cruise.
