The first NAUI TRIMIX instructor course held
in Europe took place at Cavalaire in France during May 1999. The
course was organised by Aldo FERRUCCI Director of BUBBLE OR NOT BUBBLE based in Nice.
NAUI Worldwide created in 1997 NAUI Technical Operation. The board
of Directors members are probably the most qualified people in the
world for Technical Diving : Jim BOWDEN (holds the depth world record),
Ann KRISTOWICH, Bill HAMILTON, Peter READY, Billy DEANS, Tim O'LEARY,
Bruce WIENKE are just a few of them.
The lectures where given by Tim O'LEARY and Jim BOWDEN. Jim comes from the cave
community and holds the depth world record (282m) on a TRIMIX 6.4%
of oxygen. His achievement was carried out at the Zacaton caves
in Mexico. Tim is formerly a NAVY diver, reconverted into commercial
diving. He now runs NAUI Technical Operation.
The topics of the classroom sessions where :
- Mixed gases
- Physiques and physiology of gases
- Gas blending
- Helium based gases
- Decompression models
- Tables and algorithms
- Bottom and decompression mixes
- Physiology of oxygen
- Planning
- Equipment
- Surface support and emergency's
The six candidates, mostly from Switzerland where
the first to work with the new decompression algorithm developed
by Dr WIENKE (RGBM) and tested during the five last years on the
NAVY divers.
The dives where made from
the MV EPERLAN and we can only state their efficiency of this
team lead by Momo, Georges and Jules. Thanks to them ... |
