| WRECKS - TIFLER | ||
| GENERAL DESCRIPTION | ||
The Tifler was a french cargo
of 1,194 tonnes for a length of 75m, 10.80m at the beam and a draught
of 4.26m. She was motorized by a triple expansion engine. |
||
| HISTORY | ||
She was built in 1914 at the shipyard
of Nüschke & Co. in Stettino. All we know about the
wreckage of this ship is that she was sunk off Pietra Ligure in course
of a torpedo attack during January 1943 from a british submarine Sahib. |
||
| DIVE SITE | ||
| Site : the wreck of the Tifler lies about 0.6 mile
off Pietra Ligure. Co-ordinates: 44 deg 07,925 north / 08 deg 17,273 east Depth : the top deck lies at 48m and the deepest portion of the ship (her stern) at 53m. |
||
| THE DIVE | ||
Sitting straight up on her keel, the
Tifler lies on a muddy bottom. The hull is still practically
intact and the visit is pretty straight forward. The visit to the communicating
holds and to the large propeller, emerging from the sand near the imposing
rudder (right) is particularly suggestive.Again this dive is more for
the marine life than for the wreck itself. |
||
| DIFFICULTY | ||
There are no real difficultys on this
wreck. Their is generally no currents and the visibility is usually good.
The dives will be done on air and penetration will be done with all precaution.
