| GENERAL DESCRIPTION | ||
The Captain Dan was an ex Coast
Guard tender measuring 53m in length. |

| HISTORY | ||
The ship was originally
named Hollyhock, VLM220. After being decommissioned by the Coast
Guard she was purchased by a missionary. Mechanical problems stranded
the vessel and she was towed to the Miami River and sold to the Florida
Boating Improvement Program to become an artificial reef. The ship is
then renamed Captain Dan in memory of Dan Garnsey, a charter fishing pioneer
and sunk on the 20th of February 1990. |

| DIVE SITE | ||
| Site : the Captain Dan lies in the waters of Rodeo Reef, Florida. Co-ordinates : Depth : the top deck lies in 22m and the deepest part is at the stern at 33m. |

| THE DIVE | ||
The Captain Dan lies straight up on her
hull. The general condition of the wreck is good and penetration can be
done in the wheelhouse, the holds and the engine room with the necessary
precautions. |

| DIFFICULTY | ||
There are no particular difficulties,
no fishing nets. Nitrox 36 would be the gas of choice for this dive, giving
us over 30 minutes without leaving the NDL. |
