WRECKS - GOBERNADOR BORIS | Home | |
GENERAL DESCRIPTION | ||
The Gobernador Bories was a
cargo. She moved 2332 tonnes on surface. |
||
HISTORY | ||
She was built in 1882 at West Hartlepool
and registered at Punta Arenas (Chili) and was sunk in 1915. |
||
DIVE SITE | ||
Site : the Gobernador Boris lies 275m south-east
of Inverlane. Co-ordinates : Depth : the shallowest portion is at 10m and the maximum depth is at 16m. |
||
THE DIVE | ||
The Gobernador Bories lies with
a slight list to starboard on white sand and rocks. The silt has been
taken away by the strong tidal currents. After descending on the line
(beware of current) in usually 30m of visibility, the ship appears. The
stern as well as her starboard side are still in good shape and a stroll
on her hull allows the diver to hide from the currents. The mid portion
is in fairly bad condition, her holds a filled with debris. This wreck
is more about the marine life she now hosts than the actual ship. It is
not rare to encounter her large groupers, carangids and schools of all
smaller sized fish. |
||
DIFFICULTY | ||
There main difficulties on this wreck
is the currents. The dive must be well planned to enter the water at slake
high tide and exit the water before the current ripe's the divers off
the wreck. Nitrox 50 would be the gas of choice for this dive, but actually
due to her shallow depth, air will do a good job too. |
