WRECKS - TABARKA | Home | |
GENERAL DESCRIPTION | ||
The Tabarka was a cargo who
displaced 2624 tonnes on surface. |
||
HISTORY | ||
We do not know much about the Tabarka
except that she was known as the Pollux and was registered in
Rouen. She was sezed by the Royal Navy in July 1940 at Falmouth and brought
to Scapa Flow to serve as a blockship. |
||
DIVE SITE | ||
Site : the Tabarka lies about 200m north west of
Inverlane. Co-ordinates : 58 deg 53,31 north / 03 deg 09,55 west Depth : the hull lies at 12m. |
||
THE DIVE | ||
The Tabarka lies completely
upside down, just a few hundred meters from the Gobernador Boris.
The visibility is usually excellent due to strong tidal currents. The
place of interest is without any doubt the engine room. Three huge boilers
who fell of their stands are now lying on the ceiling and a little further
a triple expansion turbine. |
||
DIFFICULTY | ||
The main difficulty lies in the current
and the penetration. Once inside the wreck their are only two ways out
of it, the entry you came from and the exit at the other end of the wreck.
This dive is tidal so the visit can be down only when slake tide. The
gas of choice would be a air due to the very shallow depth. |
